A Special Thank-you: WGU Tennessee Military Service Scholarship
by Kimberly K. Estep,
WGU Tennessee Chancellor
On Monday we celebrated Veterans Day, which has always been special in our home. My grandfather served in the Navy during World War II, and my father proudly followed in his footsteps. More recently, my husband, Paul, completed 14 years of service in the Army. Like many other of our men and women in uniform, it was difficult for Paul to finish his degree. It is hard to focus on school when you are moving often and have an unpredictable schedule.
For that reason and many others, I could not be more proud to announce our Military Service Scholarship, which provides up to $2,000 for military personnel, retired military, veterans, and military spouses looking to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree through any of WGU Tennessee’s more than 50 online degree programs.
WGU Tennessee is ideal for military personnel looking to finish their degree. It offers students the opportunity to earn an accredited degree by completing coursework on their own time and schedule from anywhere with an Internet connection. We offer degrees in four high-demand fields uniquely suited for the talents of many military personnel and their spouses: information technology, K–12 teacher education, business, and health professions, including nursing.
Our parent institution, Western Governors University, has a long history of providing affordable quality education with the flexibility that military personnel need. In fact, the university has been selected as one of the Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities for six consecutive years by Military Advanced Education Magazine.
Recipients of the Military Service Scholarship will receive $500 toward each of up to four terms’ tuition. This scholarship is available to new students who have been officially accepted to any of WGU Tennessee’s bachelor’s or master’s degree programs. Please consider applying today – the deadline for applications is November 30.
